Nel 1999 vince un posto di ricercatore universitario (vecchio settore H11X disegno) presso la Facoltà di Architettura dell’Università di Firenze ed è assegnato al Dipartimento di Progettazione
Risultando idoneo il 22/03/2002 viene chiamato come Professore Associato dalla Facoltà di Architettura dell’Università degli Studi di Firenze ed assegnato al settore disciplinare ICAR17 (Disegno), scegliendo il Dipartimento di Progettazione della stessa Università.
Professore Ordinario del settore scientifico disciplinare CEAR 10 A (exICAR 17). È docente di Rilievo Architettonico nel Corso di Laurea in Architettura e Design, nella Scuola di Specializzazione e nella Scuola di Dottorato di Architettura del Dipartimento di Architettura dell'Università di Firenze. Si occupa di numerose ricerche relative alle opportunità offerte dal rilievo digitale 3D e dal telerilevamento nel campo dell'archeologia, dell'architettura e dell'urbanistica dei Centri Storici. È autore di numerose pubblicazioni scientifiche sulle problematiche di riqualificazione dei centri storici e dei siti patrimonio UNESCO. Si è interessato di numerosi edifici di carattere monumentale a Firenze, in Italia e in Europa sotto il profilo dell'indagine scientifica finalizzata alla documentazione e alla conservazione. Tra i principali lavori si segnalano le ricerche sull'architettura lignea in Russia e nel Nord Europa e le indagini su vari siti archeologici in Medio Oriente (tra cui le fortezze crociate di Petra in Giordania e la fortezza di Masada in Israele). Inoltre, dirige studi di ricerca su centri storici come il quartiere di Salah al-Din a Gerusalemme Est, la zona Rua S. Joao nel centro di San Paolo in Brasile, alcuni isolati del centro storico di Città del Messico e la documentazione del patrimonio storico francescano in Europa, Messico e Brasile.

Ordinary Professor of scientific sector ICAR 17. Professor of Architectural Survey in Architecture and Design Degree, professor in the School of Specialization in Cultural Heritage and professor in the PhD School of Architecture of the Department of Architecture DIDA of the University of Florence. He deals with numerous researches related to the opportunities offered by digital survey and remote sensing in the field of archaeology, architecture and urban planning for Historical Town Centres. He is the author of numerous scientific publications on the problems of recovery and redevelopment of historic centres and UNESCO heritage sites at national and international level. He is responsible for numerous scientific cooperation agreements of the University of Florence and carries out research in many countries. The research on wooden architecture in Russia and Northern Europe, the surveys of various archaeological sites in the Middle East (including the Petra Crusaders fortresses in Jordan and the Masada fortress in Israel), and studies recent historical centres (the Slah al Din district in East Jerusalem and the Rua S. Joao in the centre of São Paulo in Brazil).
