Pietro Matracchi è architetto e Professore Ordinario presso il Dipartimento di Architettura dell'Università degli Studi di Firenze, dove è docente di Restauro Architettonico dal 2002. Ha insegnato la stessa disciplina presso gli Atenei di Pisa e Perugia. È stato membro del Consiglio Direttivo (2021-2023) della Società Italiana per il Restauro dell’Architettura (SIRA). 

Nella sua attività scientifica pratica una diagnostica architettonica che mira ad accrescere la conoscenza delle tecniche costruttive e delle fasi di edificazione, focalizzando l'attenzione anche sugli aspetti operativi di cantiere e sui problemi di conservazione dei materiali e delle strutture. Nell’ambito della diagnostica architettonica di edifici monumentali fornisce attività scientifica di consulenza per Istituzioni pubbliche e private.

Professore Ordinario di Restauro (SSD, CEAR 11B) nel Dipartimento di Architettura dell’Università degli Studi di Firenze.

Direttore della Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni Architettonici e del Paesaggio, UNIFI.

Membro del Collegio di dottorato, "Dottorato in Architettura, progetto, conoscenza e salvaguardia del patrimonio culturale", Referente del curriculum "Strutture e restauro dell'architettura e del patrimonio culturale", Unifi.

Ha svolto attività di docenza nell’ambito del Restauro Architettonico negli Atenei di Firenze, Pisa e Perugia, presso le Facoltà di Architettura, Ingegneria (UNIPI e UNIPG) e Scienze Matematiche, Fisiche e Naturali (UNIFI).

È stato vice coordinatore e componente del Comitato Ordinatore del Master di II livello in “Restauro degli Edifici Storici e Monumentali, Progetto Cantiere Sicurezza” dal 2008 al 2010, dove ha anche svolto attività di docenza.

Presso la Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni architettonici e del Paesaggio dell'Università di Firenze è docente nel Laboratorio di Diagnostica.

Negli anni 2011 e 2012 è membro del collegio docenti del dottorato internazionale “Processes, Materials and Constructions in Civil and Environmental Engineering and for the Protection of the Historic-Monumental Heritage", partners l’Università degli Studi di Firenze e la Technische University Braunschweig; nel 2013 membro del collegio docenti del dottorato in "Architettura", Università degli Studi di Firenze.

Dal 2014 è membro del FAL- Florence Accessibility Lab, dell’Unità di “Ricerca Interdipartimentale FAL-Accessibilità al Patrimonio Culturale e Sviluppo Umano” dell’Università di Firenze.

È stato membro del Consiglio Direttivo (2021-2023) della Società Italiana per il Restauro dell’Architettura (SIRA).

È membro e/o responsabile scientifico di numerosi accordi di ricerca nazionali e internazionali, anche con bandi competitivi.

Fa parte di comitati scientifici/editoriali di riviste e collane. È Co-Director della collana “People_Places_Architecture”, Firenze University Press (FUP).

Nell’ambito della diagnostica di edifici monumentali e di insiemi architettonici estesi anche su scala urbana fornisce consulenza scientifica per Istituzioni pubbliche e private.

È autore di oltre centosessanta pubblicazioni scientifiche consistenti in volumi, saggi, curatele, articoli in rivista scientifica.

Pietro Matracchi

Pietro Matracchi is an architect and a Full Professor of Architectural Restoration at the University of Florence’s Architecture Department. He has also taught Architectural Restoration at the Universities of Pisa and Perugia. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the SIRA (2021-2023), the Italian Society for Architectural Conservation/Restoration.

His scientific achievements include studies on the analysis of architectural artifacts. He has developed an architectural diagnostics tool that aims to increase knowledge about construction techniques and phases, also focusing on the operational aspects of a construction site and on the conservation problems of materials and structures. In the field of architectural diagnostics of monumental buildings, he provides consultancy services for both public and private institutions.

Member of the Doctoral Board of the PhD Programme “Architecture, Design, Knowledge and Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage”, and Coordinator of the curriculum “Structures and Conservation of Architecture and Cultural Heritage”, University of Florence.

He has taught Architectural Conservation at the Universities of Florence, Pisa and Perugia, within the Faculties of Architecture, Engineering (University of Pisa and University of Perugia), and Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences (University of Florence).

He served as Deputy Coordinator and member of the Steering Committee of the Second-Level Master’s Programme in Conservation of Historic and Monumental Buildings (*Progetto Cantiere Sicurezza*) from 2008 to 2010, where he also carried out teaching activities.

At the School of Specialisation in Architectural and Landscape Heritage of the University of Florence, he teaches in the Diagnostic Laboratory.

In 2011 and 2012, he was a member of the teaching board of the international PhD programme “Processes, Materials and Constructions in Civil and Environmental Engineering and for the Protection of the Historic-Monumental Heritage”, jointly organised by the University of Florence and the Technische Universität Braunschweig; in 2013, he was a member of the teaching board of the PhD programme in Architecture at the University of Florence.

Since 2014, he has been a member of FAL – Florence Accessibility Lab, part of the Interdepartmental Research Unit “Accessibility to Cultural Heritage and Human Development” at the University of Florence.

He served as a member of the Executive Board (2021–2023) of the Italian Society for Architectural Conservation/Restoration (SIRA).

He is member and/or scientific coordinator of numerous national and international research agreements, including those funded through competitive calls.

He serves on the scientific and editorial boards of journals and book series. He is Co-Director of the series “People_Places_Architecture”, published by Firenze University Press (FUP).

His research activity focuses on architectural diagnostics aimed at advancing knowledge of construction techniques and building phases, with particular attention to construction practices and issues related to the conservation of historic materials and structures. In the field of diagnostics applied to monumental buildings and large-scale architectural complexes, including urban contexts, he provides scientific consultancy for public and private institutions.

He is the author of more than 160 scientific publications, including monographs, essays, edited volumes, and articles in peer-reviewed journals.
