Tommaso Pecorella è nato a Firenze nel 1969, ha conseguito la laurea con lode in Ingegneria Elettronica ed il dottorato di ricerca in Telecomunicazioni, entrambi presso l'Università degli Studi di Firenze, nel 1996 e nel 2000, rispettivamente. Dal 2001 al 2007 è stato Ricercatore presso il Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecomunicazioni (CNIT). Dal 2007 al 2002 è stato Ricercatore universitario e successivamente Professore Associato presso il Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell'Informazione dell'Università degli Studi di Firenze.
Dal 2019 è anche Visiting Professor presso il Dpt. of Computer Science dell'Univerisy of Saint Louis, Missouri (USA).
Presso l'Università degli Studi di Firenze ha ricevuto l'affidamento della docenza di numerosi corsi. Recentemente insegna "Network Security" e "Reti di Calcolatori" per i corsi di Laurea di Ingegneria Informatica e Software: Science and Technology. Inoltre è stato relatore di numerose tesi di Laurea triennale e magistrale e supervisore di studenti di dottorato.
Ha partecipato all'organizzazione di numerose conferenze e workshops, ed è maintainer del software di simulazione di reti ns-3 (www.nsnam.org), per cui svolge anche il ruolo di amministratore e mentor all'interno del Google Summer of Code.
Svolge attività di ricerca nell'ambito dei protocolli di reti e della sicurezza delle reti, con particolare riguardo alla secrity by design, all'ottimizzazione delle performance di protocolli sicuri, lo sviluppo di protocolli per reti IoT e Industrial IoT. Svolge inoltre attività di standardizzazione presso l'Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).

Tommaso Pecorella was born in Florence in 1969. He received the Laurea cum laude in Electronic Engineering and the Ph.D. in Telecommunications, both from the University of Florence, in 1996 and 2000, respectively. From 2001 to 2007 he was a Researcher at the Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecommunications (CNIT). From 2007 to 2002 he was a University Researcher and then Associate Professor at the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Florence.
Since 2019 he is also a Visiting Professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Saint Louis, Missouri (USA).
At the University of Florence he has been entrusted with the teaching of several courses. Recently he teaches "Network Security" and "Reti di Calcolatori" for the degree courses of Computer Engineering and Software: Science and Technology. He has also been the supervisor of several Bachelor's and Master's theses and the supervisor of PhD students.
He has participated in the organization of several conferences and workshops, and is the maintainer of the network simulation software ns-3 (www.nsnam.org), for which he also acts as administrator and mentor within the Google Summer of Code.
He carries out research activities in the field of network protocols and network security, with particular attention to secrity by design, optimization of the performance of secure protocols, development of protocols for IoT and Industrial IoT networks. He also carries out standardization activities at the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).
