CURRICULUM BREVE
Francesca Tosi, architetto, è Professore ordinario di Design presso il Dipartimento di Architettura-DIDA dell'Università degli Studi di Firenze. Sviluppa la sua attività di ricerca e di didattica nel campo del Design di prodotto e degli interni, dello Human-Centred Design/User Experience e dell’Inclusive Design, in particolare nei settori dell’innovazione di prodotto, del design per la sanità e l’assistenza, del design per l’inclusione per lo spazio urbano e lo spazio collettivo, e per gli ambienti e i percorsi museali.
Sugli stessi temi ha pubblicato numerosi volumi, saggi ed articoli, ha organizzato convegni ed eventi.
Ha diretto, e dirige attualmente, programmi di ricerca finanziati dall'Unione Europea, dal MIUR, dal Ministero del lavoro, da amministrazioni pubbliche ed aziende private.
I risultati delle ricerche progettuali sono stati più volte realizzati, pubblicati in monografie, articoli su riviste e atti di congressi nazionali e internazionali, ed hanno ricevuto premi e riconoscimenti sia di livello italiano che internazionale.
Dal 1996 al 2007 è stata Ricercatore e, successivamente, Professore associato presso la Facoltà del Design del Politecnico di Milano. Dal 2007 è Professore ordinario presso la Facoltà (oggi Dipartimento) di Architettura dell’Università di Firenze.
Tra i principali incarichi:
dal 2010 al 2018, è stata Presidente della SIE, Società Italiana di Ergonomia e Fattori umani;

PROFILO SCIENTIFICO
Le sue attività di ricerca e di didattica sono focalizzate sull’innovazione di prodotto, l’Ergonomia e Design/Human-Centred Design/UX, il Design for All/Inclusive Design. Ha diretto, e dirige attualmente, programmi di ricerca di livello nazionale e internazionale nei campi dell’innovazione di prodotto, del design per la sanità e l’assistenza, del design per l’inclusione per lo spazio urbano e lo spazio collettivo, e per gli ambienti e i percorsi museali.
Su questi temi ha pubblicato numerose monografie, saggi e articoli su riviste nazionali e internazionali, e ha curato congressi, mostre ed eventi.
Nella sua attività di ricerca e nelle sue pubblicazioni, ha sviluppato metodi di indagine e di sviluppo progettuale basati sull'approccio Human-Centred Design/UX specificatamente rivolti al Design di prodotto e di interni (Tosi F. 2005, 2006, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2025).
Ha diretto l'elaborazione e la pubblicazione della norma UNI 11377:2010, Usabilità dei prodotti industriali. Parte parte 1: principi generali, termini e definizioni. Parte 2: metodi e strumenti di intervento.
È direttore del Laboratorio di Ergonomia & Design-LE D del Dipartimento di Architettura di UNIFI (https://www.ergonomicsdesignlab.com), nel cui ambito sono sviluppati metodi e tecniche di ricerca progettuale HCD, UXD, ID, applicati all'innovazione di prodotti e servizi.

Francesca Tosi, Architect, is Full Professor of Industrial Design at Department of Architecture - DIDA, University of Florence.
She develops her research and didactic activities in the fields of Product and Interior Design, Human-Centred Design/User Experience and Inclusive Design, in particular on: daily use products and environments, and products and services for health and care.
On the same subjects: she is author of books, essays and articles, she organized conferences and events, and she was/is scientific responsible of research funded by European Union, Italian Ministry of University, Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, and by public administrations and private companies.
Since 1996 to 2007 she was Assistant and, then, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Design of Politecnico di Milano. Since November 2007 she is Full professor at the Faculty (today Deparment) of Architecture of University of Florence.

ACADEMIC PROFILE
Her research and academic activitiy are focused on Product innovation, Ergonomics in Design/Human-Centred Design/UX and Design for All/Inclusive Design. She directed and directs research programs on the national and international level in the fields of product innovation, health and care design, inclusive design for urban and collective space, inclusive design for museum spaces and itineraries.
On this issues she has published numerous monographs, essays and articles in national and international magazines, and she curated conferences, exhibitions and installations.
In her research activities and in her publications, he developed methods of investigation and design development based on the Human-Centered Design and User Experience approach, specifically aimed at product and interior design (Tosi 2005, 2006, 2016, 2018,2020, 2022, 2025).
She directed the elaboration and publication of the standard UNI 11377:2010, Usability of industrial products. Part 1: general principles, terms and definitions. Part 2: methods and tools for intervention.
She is director of the Ergonomics & Design-LED Laboratory of the Department of Architecture at UNIFI (www.dida.unifi.it/vp-353-laboratorio-ergonomia-design.html), in which research methods and techniques HCD, UXD, ID are developed and applied to product and service innovation. In her research activities and in her publications, he developed methods of investigation and design development based on the Human-Centered Design and User Experience approach, specifically aimed at product and interior design (Tosi 2005, 2006, 2016, 2020, 2022, 2025).
She is director of the Ergonomics & Design-LED Laboratory of the Department of Architecture at UNIFI in which research methods and techniques HCD, UXD, ID are developed and applied to product and service innovation.
Since 2024 she is Director of the Interuniversity Research Center HCD-Care;
since 2025 she is Director of the Doctoral School of Project Studies and Cultures of University of Florence.
The results of the Design researches have been repeatedly produced, and published in monographs and in national and international articles and congress proceedings, and have received national and international awards.
