Sara Falsini ha conseguito la Laurea Specialistica in Biologia Cellulare e Molecolare nel 2010 e il Dottorato di Ricerca in “Scienze Biomediche” nel 2014 presso l'Università degli Studi di Firenze. Tra il 2015 e il 2019 ha continuato la sua attività di ricerca come assegnista di ricerca presso il Dipartimento di Chimica (2015, 2020 e 2021) dell'Università di Firenze e INSTM (2016-2019), e successivamente al Dipartimento di Biologia (2020, 2022).
Da settembre 2023 è ricercatrice a tempo determinato di tipo A presso lo stesso Dipartimento ed è docente del corso di “Botanica con Laboratorio” (SSD BIO/01) per il la Laurea Triennale in Scienze Biologiche e “Botanica Farmaceutica” (SSD BIO/01) per il Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Biologia Molecolare e Applicata.
I suoi interessi scientifici si concentrano principalmente sullo studio di aspetti morfologici delle piante sottoposte a diversi stress: abiotici, come micro-nanoplastiche, salinità e altri contaminanti e biotici come patogeni (funghi e insetti). La sua attività di ricerca riguarda anche l'impiego di metaboliti secondari estratti da piante per applicazioni nelle biotecnologie. Collabora stabilmente con il Laboratorio di Fisiologia Vegetale, il Dipartimento di Chimica “Ugo Schiff” e il Dipartimento di Scienze e Tecnologie Agrarie, Alimentari, Ambientali e Forestali. Dal 2016 si è avvicinata al campo della sostenibilità e ha preso parte ad un progetto H2020 sulle procedure ecocompatibili (MEDEAS) e ad un progetto finanziato dalla Regione Toscana POR Creo Fesr (ECOMAPS). Dal 2019 collabora con il Green Office dell'Università di Firenze in un progetto riguardante la gestione e l'innovazione nella sostenibilità ambientale dell'Università. E’ inoltre referente per l’Università di Firenze all’interno del Gruppo di Lavoro “Risorse e Rifiuti” della Rete delle Università per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile.

Sara Falsini obtained a Master's Degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2010 and a PhD in "Biomedical Sciences" in 2014 at the University of Florence. Between 2015 and 2019 she continued her research activity as a research fellow at the Department of Chemistry (2015, 2020 and 2021) of the University of Florence and INSTM (2016-2019), and subsequently at the Department of Biology (2020, 2022).
Since September 2023 she has been a type A fixed-term researcher at the same Department and is a lecturer of the "Botany with Laboratory" course (SSD BIO/01) for the Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences and "Pharmaceutical Botany" (SSD BIO/01) for the Master's Degree Course in Molecular and Applied Biology.
Her scientific interests mainly focus on the study of morphological aspects of plants subjected to various stresses: abiotic such as micro-nanoplastics, salinity, and other contaminants and biotic like pathogens (fungi and insects). Her research activity also concerns the use of secondary metabolites extracted from plants for applications in biotechnology. She regularly collaborates with the Plant Physiology Laboratory, the Department of Chemistry “Ugo Schiff” and the Department of Agricultural, Food, Environmental and Forestry Sciences and Technologies Since 2016 she has approached the field of sustainability and took part in an H2020 project on eco-compatible procedures (MEDEAS) and in a project financed by the Tuscany Region POR Creo Fesr (ECOMAPS). Since 2019 she has been collaborating with the Green Office of the University of Florence on a project concerning management and innovation in the environmental sustainability of the University. She is also the contact person for the University of Florence within the “Resources and Waste” Working Group of the Network of Universities for Sustainable Development.
