Marco Fanfani è nato a Firenze nel 1984. Ha conseguito la laurea specialistica in Ingegneria Informatica nel 2011 e il dottorato di ricerca in Ingegneria Informatica, Sistemi e Telecomunicazioni nel 2015, entrambi presso l'Università di Firenze, Italia.
Dal 2015 lavora come ricercatore presso il Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell'Informazione (DINFO) dell'Università di Firenze. Dal 2022 è ricercatore a tempo determinato (RTD-a) nello stesso dipartimento.
Marco Fanfani, Ph.D., è ricercatore a tempo determinato (RTD-a) presso il Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell’Informazione (DINFO) dell’Università degli Studi di Firenze.
La sua attività di ricerca verte principalmente su temi quali: architetture per big data, 2D and 3D visual analytics, machine learning e deep learning, computer vision e multimedia forensics, knowledge engineering.
Fa parte del DISIT Lab e del Computational Vision Group del Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell’Informazione dell’Università Firenze.
Nel corso delle sue attività di ricerca ha partecipato ai seguenti progetti: Extra-europei: FENCE (finanziato da DARPA, USA); Europei: ARROWS, HERIT-DATA; Nazionali: SUONO; Regionali: THESAURUS; Locali: TRAVIS (a seguito della vincita del bando Giovani Ricercatori Protagonisti, finanziato da Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze). Attualmente partecipa al Centro Nazionale per la Mobilità Sostenibile (CN MOST).
Marco Fanfani è autore di numerosi articoli e contributi in riviste e conferenze internazionali e ha conseguito riconoscimenti e premi internazionali per prodotti della ricerca, tra cui due best paper award.
Ha servito come revisore per molteplici riviste internazionali e attualmente è Associate Editor della rivista SoftwareX (Elsevier). Inoltre, è stato membro di comitati di programma per conferenze e workshop internali e co-chair del workshop SPEED nell’ambito della conferenza ICCSA.
Marco Fanfani è co-docente dei corsi di Big Data Architecture e Knowledge Engineering per il corso di laurea magistrale in Intelligenza Artificiale presso la scuola di Ingegneria dell’Università degli Studi di Firenze e ha tenuto corsi nell’ambito del dottorato in Information Engineering dell’Università degli Studi di Firenze.
Marco Fanfani ha partecipato in qualità di socio fondatore alla creazione dello spin-off DAI - Data Analytics Insights, riconosciuto come spin-off universitario dall’Università di Firenze.

Marco Fanfani was born in Florence in 1984. He received a master’s degree in Information Engineering in 2011 and a Ph.D. in Information Engineering, Systems, and Telecommunications in 2015, both from the University of Florence, Italy.
Since 2015, he has been working as a researcher at the Department of Information Engineering (DINFO) at the University of Florence. Since 2022, he has been an assistant professor (RTD) in the same department.

His research focuses primarily on topics such as big data architectures, 2D and 3D visual analytics, machine learning and deep learning, computer vision and multimedia forensics, and knowledge engineering.
He is a member of the DISIT Lab and the Computational Vision Group at the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Florence.

Marco Fanfani is the author of numerous articles and contributions in international journals and conferences and has received international recognition and awards for research achievements, including two Best Paper Awards.
He has served as a reviewer for multiple international journals and is currently an Associate Editor of the journal SoftwareX (Elsevier). Moreover, he has been a member of program committees for international conferences and workshops and has co-chaired the SPEED workshop as part of the ICCSA conference.
Marco Fanfani is a co-lecturer for the Big Data Architecture and Knowledge Engineering courses in the master’s program in Artificial Intelligence at the School of Engineering of the University of Florence and has taught courses within the Ph.D. program in Information Engineering at the same university.
Marco Fanfani was also a founding member of DAI - Data Analytics Insights, which has been recognized as a university spin-off by the University of Florence.
