Giacomo Bazzani, PhD., is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Florence – Department of Political and Social Sciences, where he teaches ‘Sociology’, ‘Sociological Theory, and ‘Theories of Social Change’. He earned a PhD in Social and Political Change at the University of Turin.
Current roles include serving as the Principal Investigator for the “Prosocial Motivations for Climate Mitigation Behaviors” (PROSOCIAL-CLIMA) project. This collaborative project, funded with a grant of 263,890 euros from the Italian Ministry of University and Research (P2022LWTSJ), involves the University of Florence, University of Pavia, and University of Naples Federico II.
He has achieved the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA PF) awarded by the European Union, along with the DAAD one-year research grant. He has conducted research as a visiting scholar at both the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne and Trier University. His affiliations include membership in the Society of Friends and Former Associates of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies, the Society for the Advancement in Socio-Economics, the European Sociological Association, and the International Network of Analytical Sociologists.
His research focuses on pro-social behaviour, sustainability transition, money innovation, and decision-making under uncertainty. His contributions have been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Sociology, Theory and Society, Sociological Forum, Globalizations, European Journal of Population, Vienna Yearbook of Population Research, and European Societies. He authored the book When Money Changes Society. The Case of Sardex Money as Community (Springer VS).
