Riccardo Guidi è professore associato in Sociologia generale (GSPS-05/A, già SPS/07) presso il Dipartimento di Scienze Politiche e Sociali dell'Università di Firenze. Precedentemente, è stato in servizio come professionare associato e ricercatore (RTDa, RTDb) nel medesimo settore presso il Dipartimento di Scienze Politiche dell’Università di Pisa.
Oltre alle esperienze accademiche, per oltre dieci ha lavorato anni per organizzazioni nonprofit occupandosi di promozione del volontariato, ricerca e formazione. Tra il 2009 e il 2015 ha svolto le funzioni di direttore e poi di senior researcher presso la Fondazione Volontariato e Partecipazione. Precedentemente ha lavorato come educatore presso una cooperativa sociale.
Ha conseguito la Laurea in Scienze Politiche (vecchio ordinamento, curriculum Sociologia) con il massimo dei voti e il Dottorato di Ricerca in Storia e Sociologia della Modernità presso l’Università di Pisa con la tesi “Alla prova della cittadinanza. Eredità, sfide dilemmi delle partnership tra attori privati e attori pubblici del nuovo welfare”.
Presso l'Università di Pisa ha insegnato Sociologia del lavoro, Metodologia della Ricerca Sociale Applicata, Sociologia del Terzo Settore, Organizzazione del Servizio Sociale nei Corsi di Laurea Triennali e Magistrali in Servizio Sociale e in Sociologia. Presso l'Università di Firenze insegna Organizzazione del Servizio Sociale, Politiche Sociali e Policy Practice per le Professioni d'Aiuto. E' inoltre titolare del Seminario "Terzo Settore e Nonprofit: Sfide Globali e Opportunità per Giustizia, Democrazia, Sviluppo Sostenibile e Occupazione" nel Corso di Laurea in Scienze Politiche.
Dal 2019 al 2023 è stato Coordinatore Scientifico delle attività di tirocinio nei Corsi di Laurea Triennale e Magistrale in Servizio Sociale dell’Università di Pisa. E' attualmente vice-presidente del Corso di Laurea in Servizio Sociale dell'Università di Firenze, delegato all'internazionalzzazione del Corso di Laurea Magistrale "Disegno e gestione degli interventi sociali" e membro della Commissione di indirizzo e auto-valutazione del Dipartimento di Scienze Politiche e Sociali dell'Università di Firenze.
Dal 2018 è co-convenor (insieme alla Prof.ssa Idit Weiss-Gal e al Prof. John Gal) dello Special Interest Group “Research on Social Work and Policy Engagement” della European Social Work Research Association (ESWRA).
È stato visiting fellow presso l’Università Complutense di Madrid, profesor invitado nel Master Trabajo Social Comunitario, Gestión y Evaluación de Servicios Sociales della medesima Università, guest lecturer presso la National Technical University of Athensed international advisor del progetto “Welfare State Reform “from Below”: Democratization of Social Policy via Social Work Representation of Weak Interests? (DemSoz)” di Cologne University of Applied Sciences e University of Duisburg-Essen.
I suoi principali interessi di ricerca si collocano nel campo delle politiche sociali e dell'azione civica, dedicando particolare attenzione a:
- Contesti, forme, strumenti, pratiche del policy engagement delle/dei professionisti della cura
- Trasformazioni, ecologie e determinanti del volontariato organizzato e informale
- Analisi comparativa nei campi del servizio sociale e del volontariato.

Riccardo Guidi is an Associate Professor of General Sociology (GSPS-05/A, formerly SPS/07) at the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the University of Florence. Previously, he served as an Associate Professor and as a Researcher (RTDa, RTDb) in the same field at the Department of Political Science of the University of Pisa.
In addition to his academic career, he worked for over ten years in nonprofit organizations, focusing on volunteer promotion, research, and training. Between 2009 and 2015, he served as Director and later as Senior Researcher at the Fondazione Volontariato e Partecipazione. Before that, he worked as an educator in a social cooperative.
He earned his degree in Political Science (pre-reform curriculum, Sociology track) with top marks and a PhD in History and Sociology of Modernity from the University of Pisa with a dissertation entitled "Testing Citizenship: Legacies, Challenges, and Dilemmas of Partnerships between Private and Public Actors in the New Welfare".
At the University of Pisa, he taught Sociology of Work, Methodology of Applied Social Research, Sociology of the Third Sector, and Organization of Social Services in the BA and MA programs in Social Work and Sociology. At the University of Florence, he currently teaches Organization of Social Services, Social Policies, and Policy Practice for Helping Professions. Additionally, he coordinates the seminar Third Sector and Nonprofit: Global Challenges and Opportunities for Justice, Democracy, Sustainable Development, and Employment in the Political Science degree program.
From 2019 to 2023, he served as Scientific Coordinator of the internship programs in the BA and MA Social Work programs at the University of Pisa. He is currently Vice-President of the BA Program in Social Work at the University of Florence, Delegate for Internationalization of the MA Program Design and Management of Social Interventions, and a member of the Steering and Self-Assessment Committee of the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Florence.
