Carlos Gil conduce ricerche empiriche guidate dalla teoria, all’intersezione tra stratificazione sociale, disuguaglianza e demografia. Ha conseguito un dottorato di ricerca presso l'Istituto Universitario Europeo, la cui tesi è stata premiata nel 2021 dal European Consortium for Sociological Research. Prima di entrare a far parte dell'Università di Firenze, ha lavorato come ricercatore post-dottorato presso il Trinity College di Dublino, l'Università di Trento e la Commissione Europea. Il suo lavoro è stato pubblicato in riviste scientifiche di alto livello (Sociological Science, Sociology of Education, European Sociological Review, Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, Work, Employment and Society, Demographic Research, Stanford University Press) e ha ricevuto ampie coperture mediatiche.

I have contributed to the work package (Spoke 1 / WP2) on “The demography of ageing: A Data Science approach to decision-making” / “Fertility and family life over the life course” using administrative tax panel data. Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the Compagnia di San Paolo-funded (€1,454,600) Project “INEQUALITREES – A Novel Look at Socio-Economic Inequalities using Machine Learning Techniques and Integrated Data Source”, PI: Moris Triventi.
