Nato nel 1944 a Firenze si laurea in Medicina a Firenze nel 1968. Insegna Farmacologia nella Facoltà di Medicina di Firenze fino al 1985 come Professore associato e successivamente Farmacologia e Tossicologia come professore ordinario nella Facoltà di Farmacia, fino al 2012.
Piero Dolara ha pubblicato circa 200 lavori su giornali scientifici, tra cui Science e Nature. E’ stato responsabile di numerosi progetti di ricerca nazionali e internazionali. Ha scoperto l’effetto analgesico e anestetico locale della mirra e la presenza delle amine eterocicliche cancerogene nella carne e nel pesce cotti a temperature elevate.
Piero Dolara, Professore emerito, oltre a occasionali interventi pubblici su temi scientifici e culturali, si dedica adesso a pieno tempo a attività letterarie (Fantasmi e Veleni, 2010; Ho poca fede anzi punta, 2016; Piero, l’Arno e le Bombe, 2017; Isabella de’ Medici, 2017; Warmageddon 2019), al canto corale (basso nel Coro Landini della scuola di Musica di Fiesole) e alla scultura in ceramica e cotto (Atelier di Enzo Formisano).

Piero Dolara was born in Florence, Italy, on march 1944. He was nominated Emeritus Professor by the Ministry of Education of Italy in 2014.
Teaching, Scientific and Official duties
Prof. Dolara has been professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology for almost four decades. He has participated as an invited speaker to scientific congresses in the whole world. In 1980 he received a Glaxo award for scientific journalism. He has been a consultant for WHO and a member of EU committees. He was Editor for more of a decade of the European Journal of Nutrition. He was coordinator of a Master of the University of Florence on Medical applications of Mindfulness techniques.
Research activities
Prof. Dolara started his research activity studying pharmacological effects of natural compounds, on environmental and food toxicology. He discovered that potent mutagens are formed during the cooking of ordinary foods, publishing a paper (Science,201,913-917,1978) that started a new field of genetic toxicology. He carried out research on human exposure to environmental chemicals, human exposure to carcinogenic chemicals and contaminants. In recent years he has focused his research on the activity of chemicals at extreme dilutions, on placebo effects and non-conventional medicine, in particular Mindfulness.
Hobbies
In recent years dedicated himself to several artistic activities (fiction writing, sculpture, ceramics, painting, poetry and music).
Publications
He has published about 200 articles in international Journals, among which Nature, Science and Cancer Research, three textbooks (Methods in Pharmacology and Toxicology; General and Environmental Toxicology and one Ebook on toxicology). He has written numerous articles of scientific information for the public. He has published several books of fiction.
