Ph.D. Giacomo Pietramellara is full professor at the Department of Agricultural, Food, Environmental and Forestry Sciences and Technologies (DAGRI). ORCID: 0000-0003-1562-8784Teaching activity: professor in charge of the courses of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the three-year degree course in Forestry and Environmental Sciences; Soil functionality and environmental stress of the Master's degree course in Science and Technology of Forestry Systems - Ecological management curriculum of Forestry Systems; Biotechnologies for the study and recovery of the soil of the Master's degree course in Biotechnologies for Environmental Management and Sustainable Agriculture (BIOEMSA).Academic activity: Member of the teaching board of the Doctoral School in Agriculture of the University of Florence, School of Agriculture; Member of the Steering Committee of the Master's Degree in Biotechnology for Environmental Management and Sustainable Agriculture - BIO-EMSA; member of the Steering and Self-Evaluation Commission DAGRI, Teaching Committee CL in Forestry and Environmental Sciences; member of the Teaching Committee CLM in Science and Technology of Forest Systems. Affiliation to scientific societies: Italian Society of Agricultural Chemistry (SICA); Proposing member of the Italian Academy of Forestry Sciences; Member of the International Network on Soil Biodiversity (NETSOB).Research activity: Soil functionality; soil-plant interaction, rhizosphere activity, taxonomic and functional analyses of the rhizosphere soil microbial community. Currently the main topics concern root interactions in intercropping agricultural systems and the potential of the mycorrhizal network in agriculture, and root metabolomics and the role of microbial necromass in the soil organic matter cycle.Additional scientific interests: the fate and role of extracellular DNA in soil, soil pollution by micro and nanoplastics.
Research objectives: to improve knowledge on plant-microorganism interactions in order to develop eco-sustainable forms of agriculture, in line with the European CAP directives, and also the capacity to recover degraded soils.
