Francesco Stingo è professore ordinario di Statistica presso l’Università di Firenze e afferisce al DiSIA (Dipartimento di Statistica, Informatica, Applicazioni “G. Parenti”). Ha conseguito la laurea specialistica in Statistica e Informatica per l'Azienda nel 2006 e il dottorato di ricerca in Statistica Applicata nel 2010 (tesi premiata dalla Societa' Italiana di Statistica come miglior tesi di dottorato in Statistica Applicata negli anni 2009-2010). Prima di trasferirsi all'Università di Firenze, ha lavorato alla Rice University (USA) per tre anni nel dipartimento di Statistica (prima come visiting student e poi come post-doctoral fellow) e successivamente nel dipartimento di Biostatistica della University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (USA), dove ha ricoperto l'incarico di Assistant Professor per 5 anni.
Il Dr. Stingo ha pubblicato piu' di 80 articoli in riviste internazionali (tra le quali Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of Machine Learning Research, Biometrics, Annals of Applied Statistics, Statistics in Medicine, Statistics and Computing) ed è stato invitato come relatore a piu' di 40 conferenze nazionali e internazionali. Il progetto Understanding genomic networks in pan-cancer and multi-platform data: novel Bayesian methods for multiple and matrix-variate networks presentato dal Dr. Stingo è stato finanziato dal MIUR nel contesto del programma per il reclutamento di giovani ricercatori "Rita Levi Montalcini"; ha ricevuto una Menzione d'onore per il Premio a Giovani Studiosi e Studiose per Contributi alle Discipline Statistiche 2021 della Società Italiana di Statistica e coordina il progetto PRIN2022 COMBINERS. Il Dr. Stingo svolge il ruolo di Associate Editor per le riviste internazionali Bayesian Analysis, Biometrical Journal, Electronic Journal of Statistics, e precedentemente ha ricoprto il ruolo di Guest Editor e Associate Editor per Statistical Methods and Applications. Dal novembre 2024 è responsabile del curriculum di Statistica del dottorato in Matematica, Informatica, Statistica dell'Università di Firenze.
Gli interessi di ricerca preminenti riguardano aspetti metodologici relativi a modelli Bayesiani per l'analisi di dati di grandi dimensioni (modelli grafici, modelli gerarchici, selezione delle variabili, modelli non-lineari), con applicazioni in ambito bio-medico (genomica, personalized medicine, diagnosi precoce, dati di immagine).

I am a Professor of Statistics in the Department of Statistics, Computer Science, Applications “G. Parenti” at the University of Florence. I obtained a PhD in Applied Statistics in 2010 (thesis awarded by the Italian Statistical Society as the best doctoral thesis in Applied Statistics in the years 2009-2010). Before moving to the University of Florence, I worked at Rice University (USA) for three years in the Statistics department and subsequently in the Biostatistics department of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (USA), where I held the position of Assistant Professor for 5 years.
I have published more than 80 articles in international journals (including the Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of Machine Learning Research, Biometrics, Annals of Applied Statistics, Statistics in Medicine, Statistics and Computing) and have been invited as a speaker at more than 40 national and international conferences. My project "Understanding genomic networks in pan-cancer and multi-platform data: novel Bayesian methods for multiple and matrix-variate networks" was funded by MIUR in the context of the "Rita Levi Montalcini" program for the recruitment of young researchers; I received an Honorable Mention for the 2021 Young Scholars Award for Contributions to Statistical Disciplines from the Italian Society of Statistics.
My main research interests concern methodological aspects relating to Bayesian models for the analysis of large data (graphical models, hierarchical models, variable selection, non-linear models), with applications in the bio-medical field (genomics, personalized medicine, early diagnosis, image data).
