Paolo SALANI

Biografia

Paolo Salani è Professore Ordinario di Analisi Matematica. Insegna o ha insegnato nei corsi di Lauerea triennale/magistrale in Matematica, Fisica, Chimica, Scienze Biologiche, Farmacia, Architettura, Ottica. I suoi interessi di ricerca riguardano soprattutto gli aspetti geometrici di soluzioni di equazioni alle derivate parziali di tipo ellittico e parabolico e varie disuguaglianze di tipo analitico-geometrico. Eì direttore della Fondazione CIME (che organizza scuole di alto profilo sugli argomenti più "caldi" della ricerca matematica, rivolti a dottorandi e giovani ricercatori) e Vice Presidente dell'Unione Matematica Italiana.

Interessi La mia attività di ricerca riguarda principalmente lo studio delle proprietà geometriche (specialmente convessità e simmetria) di soluzioni di equazioni alle derivate parziali di tipo ellittico e parabolico. Mi occupo anche di problemi sovradeterminati, problemi a frontiera libera e di disuguaglianze di tipo Brunn-Minkowski per funzionali variazionali e disuguaglianze di tipo isoperimetrico.

Biography

Paolo Salani is Full Professor of Mathematical Analysis. He teaches or has taught in the Bachelor's/Master's degree courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Pharmacy, Architecture, Optics. His research interests mainly concern the geometric aspects of solutions of elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations and various analytical-geometric inequalities. He is Director of the CIME Foundation (which organizes high-profile schools on the "hottest" topics of mathematical research, aimed at doctoral students and young researchers) and Vice President of the Italian Mathematical Union.

Born in Florence (Italy), 3/12/1968. Degree in Mathematics, 16/7/1993. PhD in Mathematics, 10/7/1998.

From 20/1/1998 to 31/8/2000 I worked as systems analyst and analyst-programmer at the Azienda Ospedaliera "Meyer" in Florence.

I am Full Professor of Mathematica Analysis at the Department of Mathematics and Informatics "U. Dini" of the University of Florence since 1/11/2017 (formerly Associate Professor since 23/12/2011 and before Researcher since 1/9/2000).

Coordinator of the PhD school in Mathematics, Compute Science, Statistics of the University of Florence (in consortium with University of Perugia and INdAM) from dal XXXIII to XXXVI course.

Dean of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science from 1/11/2020 to 27/2/2023.

Member of the Advisory Board of the PhD school in Mathematics, Compute Science, Statistics of the University of Florence (in consortium with University of Perugia).

Director of CIME Foundation "R. Conti" since 25/1/2023. Previously, Scientific Secretary of CIME since 2015.

Interest

My research activity mainly concerns the investigation of geometric (especially convexity) properties of solutions to elliptic and parabolic equations, the study of overdetermined and free-boundary problems, Brunn-Minkowski inequalities for variational functionals and various kind of geometric-analytic inequalities.
