Main skills:
- Photon and electron beam dosimetry for clinical applications;
- Quality Assurance on linear accelerators, brachytherapy sources, Tomotherapy, imaging devices (CT scanners, portal imaging devices, Cone Beam kV CT, laser-camera based surface acquisition systems);
- Treatment planning with 3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT techniques;
- Treatment planning and quality assurance in Gamma Knife;
- Commissioning of radiotherapy linear accelerators;
- Commissioning and use of several treatment planning systems for 3DCRT, stereotactic RT, intensity modulated RT and intensity modulated arc therapy;
- Automated planning, development and validation;
- Breast cancer treatment;
- Patient-based dosimetric verification of IMRT treatments with different detectors;
- Dosimetric characterization of new developed detectors;
- Use of Record & Verify software;
- Use of PACS systems;
- Information systems support.
March 2005 - December 2008: Scholarship on “Physical Methods and Procedures for High Conformity Radiotherapy Treatments”, University of Florence.
The activity mainly concerned the development and the dosimetric characterization of a 2D silicon detector for patient-based dose verification in radiotherapy. The work was part of the MAESTRO (Methods and Advanced Equipment for Simulation and Treatment in Radio Oncology) European Project. The work also included the characterization of radiochromic films (GAFCHROMIC EBT) and the design and manufacture of a water phantom for dosimetric verification in radiotherapy.
The research activity also regarded the PRIN-PRIMA project ("PRoton IMAging and conformal radiotherapy dosimetry by segmented silicon detectors"), aiming to the design and manufacture of a proton Computed Tomography (pCT) apparatus for patient positioning verification in Proton Therapy. I have been involved in the Monte Carlo simulation of the experimental setup and in the analysis of the experimental data acquired at Loma Linda Medical Center.
